GUIDELINES

 
  • The subject matter is the exploration of the beauty and complexities of “Black Life” and what that means to you.

  • The maximum runtime for submissions is 20 minutes.

  • The genre is open. Documentaries, scripted dramas, comedies, interview compilations, animation and countless other possible genres are all acceptable, as long as they’re 20 minutes or less.

  • Your project must have been shot and edited after January 1, 2019.

  • The submissions dates are June 15 - August 15.

  • Submit your film via a shareable link that is also downloadable.

  • Once all of the submissions are in, the Top 10 projects will be selected and the winners will be notified on Saturday, August 29.

  • During the Black Life Film Fest, all 10 short films will stream virtually on Saturday, September 5 via MTANow mobile app, Swirl’s Instagram Live and Zoom.

  • All 10 filmmakers will receive $5,000 towards their journey into the film industry. Winners will also have the opportunity to meet with Mansa Productions for potential distribution deals for your project.

  • Immediately following the screening, the Top 5 short films will be selected. The winners will have the opportunity to pitch and workshop additional projects at our Atlanta-based Swirl Films and Mansa offices with our producers, writers, directors and editors.
